Artist’s Bio

Ghanaian British Artist Mary Owusu-Hirsch studied a Foundation in Fine Art at the City and Guilds of London Art School and returned to study later at the Putney School of Art and Design, London. 

In 2025, she held a Fundraising Art  Exhibition “Trailblazers”, at The Africa Centre, London.

She is updating this body of work for a forthcoming Trailblazers Exhibition at The Norman Plaistow Gallery in Wimbledon, London in October 2026.  Using screen-printing, mixed media and pastels, painting her work draws on her rich life experience to explore current themes affecting the African diaspora.

She will be speaking at the opening event of the Wimbledon BookFest in October 2026, discussing her use of the Ghanaian symbolic visual language “Adinkra” combined with modern screen prints in her recent work.  Her work features portraits of contemporary figures from the African Diaspora overcoming barriers to excel in the UK.
